Favorite Things Week 4 Phone the thing we cant ignore... anymore

Favorite Things Week 4- Phone (or the way i hear)
BRING YOUR CELL PHONE TOMORROW

So do you want to hear from God?  We all want to know right? What God has for us? Who we are to be?
Our Cell Phone the thing that delivers messages to us, brings voices of friends from far away... but it also gives us space, distance, and freedom....

“And when a great crowd was gathering and people from town after town came to him, he said in a parable: “A sower went out to sow his seed. And as he sowed, some fell along the path and was trampled underfoot, and the birds of the air devoured it.And some fell on the rock, and as it grew up, it withered away, because it had no moisture. And some fell among thorns, and the thorns grew up with it and choked it.And some fell into good soil and grew and yielded a hundredfold.” As he said these things, he called out, “He who has ears to hear, let him hear.””
(Luke 8:4–8 ESV)

I love when Jesus uses farm imagery... it is always quieting and simplifying to my busy and hectic life... i long to just remember those kind words and the truth of it all....

maybe that is because i too am scattered like seeds and not always as receptive as i should be to things He speaks to me.... i do not cultivate or channel the listening ear that He requires of me... that He deserves...

Tomorrow we call God... hope you are ready.... see you at 6:30!

Favorite Things Week 3 Toys

FAVORITE THINGS WEEK 3 Toys- BRING YOUR FAVORITE CHILDHOOD TOY
the brightside 6:30pm Youth Center (doors open at 5:30pm)

Tomorrow night will be our third week of study on our favorite things as we discuss what our toys might tells us about our understanding of gifts, giving, sharing, and living..

“And he said to them, “Which of you who has a friend will go to him at midnight and say to him, ‘Friend, lend me three loaves, for a friend of mine has arrived on a journey, and I have nothing to set before him’;and he will answer from within, ‘Do not bother me; the door is now shut, and my children are with me in bed. I cannot get up and give you anything’?I tell you, though he will not get up and give him anything because he is his friend, yet because of his impudence he will rise and give him whatever he needs. And I tell you, ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened. What father among you, if his son asks for a fish, will instead of a fish give him a serpent;or if he asks for an egg, will give him a scorpion? If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will the heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!””
(Luke 11:5–13 ESV)

what do you have that you share? what do you own that you would never share? have you ever had someone ask you for something that you just couldn't part with... money, stuff, clothes? was there something you just couldn't let go...

if our God is Good and we are to be His followers, than what kind of good gifts havent we given?

one of my most favorite toys growing up were these ridiculous karate fighter toys that my brother and i would play with till our fingers were bruised and bloody... it felt like a video game come to life and i just didnt want to quit...

eventually we had to share with our cousins and killed me because they always wanted to use my favorites and i and didnt get to use the cool ones but the novice looking karate fighter with headgear and chest pad.... i didnt know how to share... even though the toys werent really mine they were just a gift from my parents... but i just couldnt let them go...

Favorite Things Week 2 Cars and Cloth

(the song is by big dane!!!)

does anyone remember this awesome show from the MTV glory days? When Xzibhit would pick up a person in their busted down or worn out ride and promise to make it a lot cooler based on what they were into?  They would pull the beater into the garage inspect it and come with a game plan to improve whatever junk car they were working with....with mad mike running thousands of feet of cable through an old VW bus just so the surfer guy could have a dryer in his trunk to tumble dry his wet suit....

it always amazed me how little they did for the actually heart and core of the car.... sure it shot flames from the muffler and had a sweet new interior... but the hardly ever replaced an engine or even probably gave it an oil change...

we are guilty of the exact same thing in our spiritual lives... we want to accessorize and customize all the little things that are never the heart of the matter... Jesus addressed this with His disciples and put it this way...

“No one sews a piece of unshrunk cloth on an old garment. If he does, the patch tears away from it, the new from the old, and a worse tear is made. And no one puts new wine into old wineskins. If he does, the wine will burst the skins—and the wine is destroyed, and so are the skins. But new wine is for fresh wineskins.””
(Mark 2:21–22 ESV)

Come Tomorrow and check out more as we try to understand why our favorite things may be our most important things!!!

Favorite Things Begins Tonight

for the next few weeks on wednesday nights during our brightside gathering we are going to be discussing our favorite things?

Why you may ask? well, I will tell you why... because our favorite things maybe the best asset we have to be reminded of God's work and doing....

Rabbis' of old and Jesus himself spoke in parables, using the common things of our lives flipped for spiritual reminder and benefit, and we will hopefully accomplish the same tonight as we discuss how small things have big impacts!!! so good? i hope so!!!

TONIGHT BRING YOUR BACKPACK!!!!!

Backpack- the thing we carry that may end up carrying us!
