Cambodia Trip post 12 Day four no more

There is much that we could write about today but frankly we are all coming up short with words and are hoping the pictures and video will convey...

Please know this... Your team has worked hard and well together... Your prayers are coveted and felt (even in hardship this trip has been full of blessings) ... We are all tired but doing remarkably well... We miss our families and friends but perhaps for different reasons than you might think... We miss you all because we want to share in this with you... There is a humanity, a connectivity, a grace that is more than simple words can share... We long for your presence like we are thankful for His... In your prayers we are connected spirit to spirit and we are all well-led...

Peace and prayers

Zac

Cambodia Trip 7 Day 1 with Marc and Ann

Hey everyone sorry for a delayed day 1 posting but we are here!!!!

WE ARE HERE-

hard fought, weary, and a lil travel worn our team arrived to Phnom Penh, Cambodia about 5:30pm the local time here (which if you are into calculating... it's easy! we are exactly 12 hours ahead... so if you have any questions about the future just let us know)

we enjoyed dinner with Marc and Ann last night and quickly retired to our bungalows afterward (more on lodging in a next post)

TOURING RDI FACILITIES

We spent the better part of this morning at touring the RDI facilities here in Kean Svay (just outside of the major city). Constant amazement at what is being sown, grown, and developed by this well-oiled machine.

More posting later time for lunch (stir-fry!) look for another post in about 10 hours or so as we will be finishing our days work!

Love you all, All are here, All are healthy, All are well

Peace and Prayers

Cambodia Trip post 4 Late Night Preflight

P228

We sit waiting in a whole new wing of LAX we are Internationally bound now as the kind people of Cathay Pacific reticketed us after a mess of a time with our US carrier.... Your team is healthy and spirits are still high.

Theologically we are all contemplating what spiritual significance there might be in all this waiting and dependency. Assuredly, God is not an airline or even in the airline business but the tethering oneself to a larger entity made manifest in a multitude of ways seems pretty divine.

Cambodia Trip post 3 delays and True Lies

So chalk it up to traveling graces and US airlines but we find ourselves halted in LA due to some air conditioning problems on our DFW to LAX transfer. So in short our agreeable 1.5 hour layover in LAX evaporated before we even took off.. There is no feeling like flying to a destination knowing you will be late...

However we did get comp'd in the beautiful Westin Bonaventure hotel, featured in such movies as True Lies (Arnold's horse and fountain scene) and TV shows as NBC's Chuck! So for the next 3 meals we will tab them to American Airlines.

All are healthy and in pretty good spirits and we are hoping to catch the the evening flight on China Air that will land us in Hong kong early Sunday morning...

Peace and prayers - Zac

Se7en Week 1 Pride

PastedGraphic-1.pdf Download this file

C0584a226b192fd3f2d5df8ba50f9f

Pride- the exaggerated self
I don't need you... I just need me...  (no one would probably actually say it that way but it is not hard to spot a proud person from the outside looking in...) what a terrible state of affairs to think that you are your own... that you are the source of your everything... has not someone else provided for you, taught you, given you the gift of life, opportunities, second/third chances?

Pride is not confidence and or a synomon for having great skill.. it is a dangerous trap of the mind to twist ourselves into something that we are not... self-sufficient... If you think that you are not proud then guess again... we all have way too much and should acknowledge those that have made it possible!

Goes before the fall...
“The fear of the LORD is hatred of evil. Pride and arrogance and the way of evil and perverted speech I hate.” (Proverbs 8:13)

I think the last thing we realize before its too late is that we needed someone else's help, we sure should have taken somebody's advice... listened, done differently... Pride is a  sin... it corrodes the soul, has the potential to destroy, deliver death.. insulate and isolate us from the grace we need to receive that we can not fashion/make for ourselves!

The Wisdom of Proverbs is that God tires of hearing about His creation thinks more highly of themselves than they ought... the first sin and the last sin is Pride... It enables and covers us  (dangerously) to sin...

The sin of Pride is a trap that easily ensnares... It is a condition that covers a multitude of errors, because misplaced confidence is a bloated swollen sore full rotten puss. We are filled with pride when we are worried,  scared, or unsure of worth. Pride is the deceiver and the mask for much deeper sorrow... Judge yourself correctly so that we can examine a little further...

Humility uncovers a multitude of poor thinking, living, doing.... Humility is God's remedy for giving us perspective...

SE7EN Opening Remarks about our spring challenge

Se7en_white

SE7EN- classic imagery... timeless insight
We are not quite as good as we think, some of us have experienced this first hand some of us are waiting for our time to "ripenly rot." Life is on the wire and we are all ready to tip...

"Father forgive me I have sinned...."
An enigmatic statement if there every was one... The opening line of historical confession expresses both the commission of sin and the need for confession. A repentance of the self, an asking for newness...

SPRING CHALLENGE
Our next big spring (April-May) series, team challenge event, will be a deep inward journey as we examine the classic framework of the "Seven Deadly Sins"

What are the seven deadly sins you ask?
Pride
Envy
Sloth
Greed
Lust
Wrath
Gluttony

all of us are poised to be poisoned... join us over the next seven weeks to explore the depths of these potential disasters

Team Based Awesome- one of the cooler sub-facts about the seven deadly sins is that the following tagline for it is the "4 last things" or better put, the aftermath of sinful ways- so that Death, Judgment, Hell, and Glory become the "last teams" of our adventure into the depths of darkness and the payment for our sinful wage

"for the wages of sin is death...." Rm 6:23

"My body is a cage for all kinds of evil"
One thing I have found to be true... the more I wrestle against the inevitably of my heart, mind, soul, and self to sin the more inclined I am to do so... Truly when Paul writes about not being able to do the things he longs to do because of his cursed body

"I am a host to darkness..."

but my soul longs for the light...

Can't wait to see you all tomorrow night! this is going to be one epic journey into the heart of darkness...

Today and Tomorrow are Big Days- Fat and Ash

Brightside1_copy

today and tomorrow are big days in the life/yearly cycle of the Christian faith... for the billions that worship Christ there are specific and time honored seasons that we join in to remember and practice certain things together... it is a way that we can share our faith beyond the walls of our church and honor a rich history of believers that follow and serve Christ... they are very meaningful and it is good for us to be aware and to practice/share in these rich historical traditions...

LENT and FASTING- a topic worth discussing (and we will tomorrow) but for now read these listings to get a better feel on the next couple days of celebration and commemoration... look for another post soon!

It is not just a restaurant or parade in the Big Easy!

Fat Tuesday or Mardi Gras (as they actually mean the same thing... Mardi Gras is just the Spanish for Fat Tuesday!) is actually born out of a Christian celebration. 12 days after Christmas comes the special day known as Epiphany marking the time in which the Wise Men (Magi) came to visit baby Jesus!  It actually lasts for days or weeks as a joyous occasion (typically just 3 days, but in some places the day itself is a legal holiday!)  It was never meant to be a time of sinful indulgence but of rejoicing and minor excess leading up to the solemn time of Ash Wednesday, which marked the time of less instead of more... the contrast was smart but many people have just enjoyed the excess without the less.

It was meant to be a community wide engagement of good ol’ fashioned fun and fellowship- eat the things you want, lots of red meat, lots of drinks, lots of not working... tonight we will spend the first half celebrating the ability to celebrate and enjoy the treats and fellowship and enjoyment of good company!Fat Tuesday or Mardi Gras (as they actually mean the same thing... AshWednesday
  the start of something serious

Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of the Lenten season (Lent) and is a 40 day period that serves as preparation for the celebration of Easter (the day of our Risen Lord!)

Traditionally Ash Wednesday is a solemn occasion for reflection upon the fragility of life  and the importance of our time, our service and our devotion.  Ash Wednesday prepares the worshipper for the commitment of Lent to abstain from (not do) or commit to (do do) something particular for 40 days (some type of fasting is encouraged either food, media, particular devices, vices, relationships.

Tomorrow we will commemorate Ash Wednesday through prayer, singing, silence, and committing/abstaining for the lenten period...

see you guys soon!! look for another post later tonight!
