Pride- the exaggerated self
I don't need you... I just need me... (no one would probably actually say it that way but it is not hard to spot a proud person from the outside looking in...) what a terrible state of affairs to think that you are your own... that you are the source of your everything... has not someone else provided for you, taught you, given you the gift of life, opportunities, second/third chances?
Pride is not confidence and or a synomon for having great skill.. it is a dangerous trap of the mind to twist ourselves into something that we are not... self-sufficient... If you think that you are not proud then guess again... we all have way too much and should acknowledge those that have made it possible!
Goes before the fall...
“The fear of the LORD is hatred of evil. Pride and arrogance and the way of evil and perverted speech I hate.” (Proverbs 8:13)
I think the last thing we realize before its too late is that we needed someone else's help, we sure should have taken somebody's advice... listened, done differently... Pride is a sin... it corrodes the soul, has the potential to destroy, deliver death.. insulate and isolate us from the grace we need to receive that we can not fashion/make for ourselves!
The Wisdom of Proverbs is that God tires of hearing about His creation thinks more highly of themselves than they ought... the first sin and the last sin is Pride... It enables and covers us (dangerously) to sin...
The sin of Pride is a trap that easily ensnares... It is a condition that covers a multitude of errors, because misplaced confidence is a bloated swollen sore full rotten puss. We are filled with pride when we are worried, scared, or unsure of worth. Pride is the deceiver and the mask for much deeper sorrow... Judge yourself correctly so that we can examine a little further...
Humility uncovers a multitude of poor thinking, living, doing.... Humility is God's remedy for giving us perspective...
